Job Description
The Financial Controller will manage the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department, focusing on accurate financial reporting, budget preparation, cost analysis, compliance, and regulatory reporting. The role supports executive decision-making by providing timely and insightful financial analysis and overseeing key performance metrics such as profitability, liquidity, and operational efficiency. The incumbent will also contribute to risk management practices and maintain strong internal controls across all financial operations.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Financial Management and Reporting
Prepare and review monthly management reports, including branch performance and profitability analysis.
Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
Track and analyze key financial ratios (e.g., liquidity ratio, capital adequacy ratio, cost-to-income ratio).
Prepare CEO’s quarterly summary for Board discussion.
Monitor yield management and cost of funds, providing improvement suggestions.
Guide financial decisions by establishing and enforcing policies and procedures.
Coordinate and assist in both internal and external audits, including DFIs.
Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and Board Packs.
Risk and Compliance
Develop and maintain robust risk management procedures and reporting frameworks.
Drive remediation of audit findings and promote a culture of risk awareness.
Participate in ALCO and ensure compliance with liquidity and capital risk thresholds.
Enforce tax compliance and implementation of consultant recommendations.
Regulatory and External Reporting
Ensure compliance with regulatory and financial reporting obligations.
Prepare and submit quarterly financial covenant ratios to DFIs.
Oversee reporting in absence of the Manager – Financial Reporting & Compliance.
Administrative and Leadership Responsibilities
Supervise daily reconciliations including NOSTRO and suspense accounts.
Review and approve statutory and operational finance reports.
Lead annual budget compilation and presentation.
Support preparation of Board reports and strategic financial presentations.
Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Head of Finance or CEO.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
CPA (T), ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification is mandatory
Experience
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a financial management or senior finance role
Skills and Competencies
Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
Excellent financial analysis and report writing skills
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial systems
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
High attention to detail and strong research abilities
