Job Description
Job Title: Finance Officer (E-Commerce)

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Job Summary: The Finance Officer(E-Commerce) shall oversee and manage all financial operations related to the company’s online business activities like tracking online sales revenue, reconciling digital payment platforms, preparing financial reports, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting management in financial planning and decision-making for the e-commerce segment.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Record and reconcile all e-commerce transactions from multiple digital payment channels.
Maintain accurate financial records of daily online sales and expenses.
Prepare periodic financial reports on e-commerce performance, including revenue trends, cost analysis, and profitability.
Support monthly and year-end closing processes.
Assist in preparing budgets and forecasts specific to the e-commerce business.
Monitor budget implementation and report variances with explanations.
Provide financial insights to support pricing strategies, promotional campaigns, and cost optimization.
Ensure financial records comply with accounting standards and company policies.
Support both internal and external audits related to e-commerce operations.
Ensure compliance with tax regulations and handle online-related financial documentation.
Oversee settlements and reconciliations from online marketplaces and payment gateways.
Manage supplier payments and refunds related to e-commerce transactions.
Monitor cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity for e-commerce operations.
Collaborate with IT and operations teams to improve integration between financial systems and e-commerce platforms.
Implement controls to prevent fraud and ensure secure digital transactions.
Streamline financial workflows for efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce or a related field.
Professional certification (CPA, ACCA) is an added advantage.
Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in financial management or accounting, preferably within an e-commerce, retail, or FMCG environment.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
Proven experience managing digital payments and online transaction reconciliations.
Proficiency in accounting software and e-commerce platforms.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced digital environment.
Strong integrity and confidentiality in handling financial data.
Barriers to Success in Role
Limited or lack of knowledge of how online sales platforms integrate with accounting systems.
Inability to analyze large volumes of digital transaction data.
