Nitida is a French association whose main objective is to design, develop and carry out projects that combine the environment preservation and local economies development in rural areas of the Global South. Its projects focus on forests and ecosystems preservation and agricultural value chains strengthening. Nitidæ also provides technical expertise to agri-food and cosmetics companies wishing to improve the performance of agricultural value chains, mitigate their environmental impact and stimulate local development hand in hand with producer organizations. Nitida is currently leading some thirty projects, mainly in Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Mozambique, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal and Cameroon. Its teams gather more than 300 employees (economists, engineers, agronomists, foresters, geographers, soil carbon specialists, GIS and remote sensing experts) spread between the different intervention countries and the headquarters in France. In Uganda, the association plans to implement practical, field-based actions – induding field studies, producer support and capacity building — to scale up agroecology and agroforestry systems, with a particular focus on the coffee sector, a key government priority. These activities will also generate technical knowledge to support dialogue with public authorities and encourage private-sector engagement. The Uganda set-up is designed to remain lean and operational, with a four-person coordination team in Kampala and a Fort Portal field unit comprising an agronomist (team lead) and four agricultural technicians. Through its projects, Nitida contributes to the improvement of the livelihoods of populations, especially women and youth. Interventions are implemented in partnership with local authorities, technical services and community organizations, with a view to sustainability and impact.
