Job Description
Background & objectives
Role
The Field Technician will monitor activities implemented with farmers in Uganda, primarily in the coffee and cocoa sectors. He/She will report directly to the Lead Agronomist, who provides supervision and is based in Fort Portal, and will fall under the overall responsibility of the Country Representative, based in Kampala.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Your mission will encompass different aspects
- Support for the characterization of agricultural practices and production constraints
- With the assistance of the Lead agronomist, conducting interviews and surveys with various types of producers to characterize technical itineraries, cropping systems, constraints, and risks faced by producers.
- Implementation of farmer support
- Support the Lead Agronomist in co-designing technical itineraries, tailored farmer support measures and in defining field tests in real farming conditions.
- Implement and follow up on-farm trials (test plots, monitoring, data collection)
- Participate in technical coordination meetings to contribute to the drafting of activity reports, the analysis of farmer test results, et
- Training and knowledge dissemination
- With support from the Lead Agronomist, deliver training and advisory sessions for producers, producer groups, and fellow agricultural technicians, drawing on lessons learned from field tests and on the relevance of agroecological innovations for different farmer profiles.
- With support from the Lead Agronomist, disseminate and support the adoption of validated technical itineraries / extension models among producers, ensuring proper understanding and application in the field.
Bonus (depending on the profile and operational needs) – Local IT support
**This additional responsibility is not systematic and will be assigned depending on the selected profile’s motivation and aptitude for IT support.**
- Serve as the first point of contact for day-to-day IT support needs and help colleagues adopt best practices.
- Support basic onboarding and tool setup (accounts, MFA, Teams/Outlook), and liaise with the HQ IT team when needed.
- Provide first-level troubleshooting, properly document/qualify incidents, and follow up with the HQ IT team until resolution.
- Contribute to maintaining a basic inventory of IT equipment in coordination with logistics.
Conditions
- Status: 1-year fixed-term contract renewable
- Position based in Kabarole or Kyenjojo district, Uganda. More than 50% of working time will be spent in the field
- Desired start: Beginning of May 2026
- Base salary to be negotiated according to profile and experience.
- Motorbike driving license is mandatory.
