Position Title: Field Sales Development Manager

About the Role
WATU is on a mission to expand access to smartphone devices across Uganda. As the Field Sales Development Manager, you will play a key role in driving regional sales growth, acquiring and managing dealership networks, and building a high-performing sales team. This position is central to WATU’s strategy to deepen market penetration and ensure sustainable growth in the smartphone financing segment.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
1. Sales Strategy & Market Penetration
Contribute to the development and execution of the company’s regional sales and expansion strategy.
Identify high-potential areas for dealership acquisition and growth.
Collaborate with senior leadership to align field strategies with company objectives.
2. Dealership Acquisition & Management
Map and evaluate potential smartphone dealerships across assigned regions.
Lead the acquisition of new dealerships using both ground-search and referral approaches.
Build and maintain strong, results-driven relationships with dealerships.
Monitor dealership performance, including sales volume, repayment quality, and inventory levels.
Conduct regular dealership visits to address performance gaps, deliver training, and resolve issues.
3. Team Leadership & Development
Recruit, train, and manage a team of Sales Executives responsible for territory coverage and dealership support.
Develop and implement route plans, monitor adherence, and control team expenses.
Conduct weekly one-on-ones, performance appraisals, and implement Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) as needed.
Define KPIs, bonuses, and structure for the sales team in collaboration with HR and senior management.
Design and deliver training sessions to build internal and external capacity.
4. Reporting, Forecasting & Budgeting
Analyze sales data and market trends to develop accurate forecasts and team targets.
Provide weekly performance reports covering trends, forecasts, dealership performance, and budget adherence.
Track team productivity and ensure alignment with sales budgets and department goals.
5. Market Analysis & Strategy Execution
Analyze industry trends and recommend pricing or marketing strategy adjustments.
Support the distribution of marketing materials and contribute to promotional campaigns.
Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and collaborate with cross-functional teams (marketing, finance, logistics).
6. Territory & Relationship Management
Maintain a strong field presence, providing hands-on support to dealerships and sales teams.
Organize and lead regional dealership meetings to share updates, address concerns, and strategize collaboratively.
Ensure dealerships have sufficient stock and staff to support optimal performance.
Act as the escalation point for dealership issues, ensuring timely resolution and support.
Key Deliverables
Achievement of sales and portfolio quality targets.
Sustained onboarding and performance of new dealerships.
Effective execution of regional market penetration strategies.
High-performing, motivated, and well-coordinated sales team.
Strong, productive relationships with dealers and OEM partners.
Performance Metrics (KPIs)
Dealership Acquisition: Number of new dealerships onboarded in the assigned region.
Sales Target: Achievement of smartphone sales goals.
Portfolio Quality: Maintenance of low “Never Paid” and “Offline” rates.
Visit Quality Assurance (QA): Completion and documentation of high-quality field visits.
Team Productivity: Achievement of individual and team performance targets.
Other Responsibilities
Maintain accurate weekly mappings of agents, shops, and sales representatives.
Approve and monitor team route plans to ensure timely execution and reporting.
Develop and control daily visit trackers and enforce rules around dealership visits.
Support HR in staff planning, engagement initiatives, and team motivation.
Participate in budgeting processes and ensure responsible use of allocated resources.
