About the LIFT Project
The LIFT project focuses on promoting locally led, climate-resilient, and inclusive livelihoods for both host and refugee communities in Lamwo district. Implemented by a consortium of three organizations, UCOBAC’s role is to support refugees and host communities by enhancing resilient livelihoods and securing access, ownership, and use of land to aid recovery and new beginnings.
The project emphasizes local capacity building and community ownership, ensuring vulnerable groups—especially women, youth, and persons with disabilities—are empowered to make informed decisions.

Position: Field Officer – Land Rights

Position Summary
The Field Officer will ensure timely delivery of activities that enhance community understanding of legal and policy frameworks governing customary land. This role is critical in ensuring that women and marginalized groups actively participate and benefit from project interventions. The officer will provide technical support to training, supervision, guidance, and reporting on project outcomes.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Community Mobilization and Education
Develop and implement community mobilization strategies to ensure active participation of women and marginalized groups.
Organize and facilitate community sensitization sessions on land rights.
Assess community knowledge gaps regularly and update support and learning plans.
Use community-friendly communication tools such as local radio, drama, and dialogues to educate on land rights.
Land Rights Registration and Documentation
Mobilize communities to participate in customary land ownership (CCO) registration and adoption of tenancy agreements.
Provide technical support to mapping and land registration teams for inclusive, accurate processes.
Supervise land mapping and demarcation, ensuring data quality and compliance with standards.
Collaborate with refugee leaders to secure land tenancy agreements.
Support safe compilation and storage of land data.
Land Conflict Resolution
Document land conflicts and support appropriate resolution mechanisms.
Work closely with community dispute committees and traditional land authorities to resolve conflicts in a gender-sensitive manner.
Monitor and report on the impact of conflict resolution efforts for continuous learning.
Monitoring, Reporting, and Knowledge Management
Prepare timely reports on field activities and contribute to monthly and donor reports.
Document impactful stories and case studies reflecting project successes and challenges.
Upholding Rights of Women and Children
Apply UCOBAC’s Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) approach to ensure equitable participation and benefits for women, youth, elderly, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups.
Advocate for and protect the rights of women, girls, and children throughout project activities.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Land Surveying or related field from a recognized institution.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in land documentation projects.
Proficiency in GIS software, preferably QGIS.
Strong facilitation and capacity-building skills.
Excellent communication and reporting abilities.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Valid rider’s permit and riding skills required.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
Fluency in English and Acholi required; knowledge of Arabic, Dinka, or Nuer is an advantage.
Salary and Benefits
