About the Role
The Engineer Manager supports the Director of Engineering in overseeing all aspects of property operations, including budgeting, capital projects, preventive maintenance, energy conservation, and team supervision. This role ensures the safety, functionality, and upkeep of the hotel’s building and grounds, focusing on asset protection and regulatory compliance.
You will be responsible for managing day-to-day engineering operations, coordinating repair and maintenance tasks, and ensuring excellent service delivery to guests and team members through effective communication, training, and operational leadership.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
1. Property Operations Support
Supervise the distribution and completion of repair work orders.
Assist in planning and executing preventive maintenance programs.
Ensure compliance with property policies and procedures.
Monitor the quality and timeliness of maintenance work.
Oversee engineering activities in the absence of the Director of Engineering.
Support management of all systems including HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, water treatment, electrical, and life safety.
Recommend and arrange for repairs, renovations, or replacement of equipment and furnishings.
Oversee the purchasing of new supplies and equipment.
Maintain strong communication with employees to align on business goals and expectations.
2. Property Maintenance & Standards
Inspect and assess the condition of hotel facilities to determine maintenance needs.
Maintain detailed records and logs as per company policy.
Operate generators and fire pumps when required.
Respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis as needed.
Ensure availability of necessary tools, equipment, uniforms, and materials for all engineering staff.
Conduct repairs on key equipment such as laundry and refrigeration systems.
3. Guest Satisfaction & Service Excellence
Empower the engineering team to deliver outstanding service.
Emphasize guest satisfaction and continuous improvement during team meetings.
Serve as a role model for professionalism and service quality.
4. Human Resources & Team Management
Assist in hiring, training, and onboarding of engineering team members.
Support safety training and departmental orientation programs.
Communicate clear performance expectations based on job descriptions.
Participate in performance evaluations and provide coaching and feedback.
Enforce disciplinary procedures according to SOPs and LSOPs.
Manage staffing levels to ensure operational efficiency and guest service standards.
Encourage employee engagement and collect team feedback for improvement.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Candidate Profile
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED plus 4 years of experience in engineering, maintenance, or related fields with technical training in HVAC-R, electrical, or plumbing.OR
2-year degree in Building & Construction, Engineering, Mechanics, or a related field with 2 years of relevant experience and technical training.
