Position Overview
The Education Officer will lead the day-to-day coordination and quality implementation of education activities within the PlayMatters project. This role involves close collaboration with other IRC sectors, capacity strengthening of volunteers and teachers, and active participation in multi-sectoral coordination forums. The Education Officer will provide technical support to enhance education outcomes, contribute to project monitoring, and support training for educators and school community leaders. The position reports to the Senior Manager Implementation – PlayMatters.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Coordinate and monitor the implementation of PlayMatters project activities and ensure alignment with project plans and priorities.
Facilitate regular communication and feedback sessions with evacuees and key stakeholders.
Provide supervision and support to ECCD caregivers and primary school teachers through routine monitoring.
Represent the project in relevant forums and coordination meetings to stay updated on sector priorities and opportunities.
Collaborate with the Senior Manager Implementation to oversee consultants and build capacities of volunteers, caregivers, and teachers.
Support awareness creation, conduct capacity assessments, and provide technical assistance to encourage adoption of project approaches.
Work with the RMEAL Manager to support studies, assessments, and dissemination of learning.
Prepare and submit timely reports on project progress and activities.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Humanities with a focus on Education or a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from a recognized institution.
At least 3 years’ experience in education programming, preferably in Early Childhood Development (ECD), Teacher Education, Accelerated Learning Programs (ALP), Psychosocial Support (PSS), Play-based learning, digital learning, or language education.
Knowledge of language acquisition methodologies, including the Communication Approach and experience conducting Language Proficiency Index (LPI) tests.
Experience working as a primary teacher or tutor, ideally within refugee and host communities.
Prior exposure to multicultural refugee settings and diverse contexts.
Experience developing educational or training curricula is a plus.
Skilled in participatory training and workshop facilitation.
Strong teamwork, communication, and reporting skills.
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Valid riding permit is an added advantage.
