Uganda Investment Authority (UIA)

The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) is a semi-autonomous Government Agency operating in partnership with the private sector and Government of Uganda to drive National economic growth and development. The Authority was setup by an Act of Parliament (Investment Code 1991, which was later revised to the Edition 2000 Lavs of Uganda) 2019 with the aim of promoting and facilitating private sector investment in Uganda.
UIA seeks to recruit highly competent, qualified and motivated individuals to fill the following vacant position.
Note: All applicants for the above positions should attach certified copies of academic credentials and appointment letters for posts that require experience.

Transportation of Goods/Passengers:

  • Safely transport goods, materials, or passengers to and from assigned locations.

  • Ensure timely pickups and deliveries as per the scheduled routes or instructions.

  • Maintain an excellent driving record and follow all traffic laws and regulations.


Vehicle Maintenance:

  • Regularly inspect the vehicle for any mechanical issues, ensuring it is in good working condition.

  • Keep the vehicle clean, both inside and out, ensuring it is presentable for passengers or for carrying goods.

  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks like refueling, checking tire pressure, oil levels, and fluid levels.

  • Report any vehicle defects, maintenance needs, or accidents to the relevant department or supervisor.


Safety and Compliance:

  • Follow all safety protocols, including wearing seat belts, securing loads, and using proper driving techniques.

  • Ensure that all required documentation, such as driving licenses, permits, and insurance papers, are up to date.

  • Adhere to company policies and legal requirements, including hours of service regulations for commercial drivers.


Customer Service (for Passenger Drivers):

  • Assist passengers in boarding and disembarking the vehicle.

  • Ensure passengers are comfortable, particularly for long trips or when transporting special-needs individuals.

  • Handle any customer inquiries or issues in a professional and courteous manner.


Route Planning and Navigation:

  • Plan and follow the most efficient routes for timely deliveries or transport.

  • Use GPS and other navigation tools to avoid traffic delays, road closures, or other disruptions.

  • Adjust routes as necessary to meet deadlines or respond to emergencies.

  • High school diploma or equivalent (depending on the employer).

  • Formal education is typically not required, but basic literacy and numeracy skills are necessary for reading instructions and filling out paperwork.


Licensing:

  • A valid driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle being operated (e.g., standard driver's license for cars, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for trucks and buses).

  • Specialized licenses may be required for certain types of vehicles, such as hazardous materials (HazMat) endorsements for truck drivers.


Experience:

  • Previous experience in driving is often required, especially for heavy vehicles or specific types of transportation (e.g., trucks, buses).

  • For commercial drivers, experience with long-distance driving, handling large vehicles, or operating under specific regulations may be preferred.


Skills:

  • Driving Skills: Excellent driving skills with knowledge of safe driving practices and defensive driving techniques.

  • Navigation Skills: Familiarity with maps, GPS systems, and route planning to optimize travel times.

  • Mechanical Skills: Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance and the ability to troubleshoot minor issues.

  • Time Management: Ability to manage time efficiently and meet delivery or pickup deadlines.

  • Attention to Detail: Careful attention to road conditions, traffic signs, and vehicle safety requirements.

  • Customer Service: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially for drivers transporting passengers or delivering goods to clients.

  • Problem-Solving: Ability to handle unexpected challenges, such as roadblocks, vehicle issues, or route changes, calmly and efficiently.
