About the Organisation

Kabarole District is Located in Western Uganda at a road Distance of 300 km from Kampala the capital city. It has an estimated population of 318,216 (Census 2014) and a population growth rate of 2.3 per annum. The District lies at an altitude of 1300-3800 meters above sea level. It borders with Bunyangabu in the south, Kamwenge in South East, Kyenjojo in the East, Bundibugyo and Ntoroko in the Northwest and Kibaale in the North east.

The District has good climate with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C and rainfall ranging from 1,200mm – 1,500 mm per annum. The District has cool temperatures averaging between 22°-25°C and has a bimodal rainfall, ranging from 1200mm – 1500mm per annum. The district has three distinct agro-ecological zones i.e. North-eastern zone, the Middle zone and the Highland (Mountain) zone. The three different zones offer different opportunities for commercial agriculture ranging from tea, dairy cattle, bananas, coffee, Apiary, and Horticulture. In addition the district is covered by rolling hills and mountains with acidic soils which have favoured tea growing. Furthermore the District is covered with good soils conducive for agriculture where geological divisions show that 90% of the district is covered with black loam (volcanic) soil while a few places especially in Busoro and parts of Hakibaale sub counties have red sandy clay loams occasionally underlain by soft laterites.

Job Description

Applications are invited from suitable qualified Ugandans to fill vacant post that exist in Kabarole District Local Government on Replacement Basis. Applications should be submitted in triplicate on Public Service Commission Form 3 (Revised 2008) to the Secretary District Service Commission, Kabarole P.O. Box 38, Fort Portal not later than 26th April 2024 at 5pm which is a closing date
Application Forms can be obtained from Public Service Commission Offices situated on 2nd Floor, Farmers House, Kampala and District Service Commission Office all over the County.

Applications should bear the title of the post clearly applied for and its reference number specified against the vacancy. Certified copies of academic certificates, transcripts, National Identify Card and a recent Passport photograph must be attached on all the three (3) Forms.
Serving Officers MUST route their applications through their Accounting Officers/Responsible Officers who should be informed of the closing date to avoid delays.

Appointment in the Public Service is based on merit and therefore lobbying and canvassing for jobs shall lead to disqualification of the applicant.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Vehicle Operation: Safely operate assigned vehicles, following all traffic laws, regulations, and company policies. This includes obeying speed limits, traffic signals, and road signs, as well as adjusting driving behavior based on road and weather conditions.

  • Transportation: Transport passengers, goods, or materials to designated locations efficiently and on schedule. Ensure the safety and comfort of passengers or cargo during transit.

  • Vehicle Maintenance: Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance tasks, such as checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and brakes. Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns to appropriate personnel.

  • Route Planning: Plan and map out efficient routes to reach destinations, considering factors such as traffic conditions, construction zones, and delivery schedules. Use GPS navigation systems or maps to navigate unfamiliar areas.

  • Loading and Unloading: Assist with loading and unloading cargo or equipment as needed, ensuring proper handling and securing of items for transport. Follow loading procedures and safety protocols to prevent damage or injury.

  • Customer Service: Provide courteous and professional customer service to passengers, clients, or customers. Answer questions, provide assistance, and address concerns to ensure a positive experience.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of vehicle inspections, mileage logs, fuel purchases, and other documentation as required by company policy or regulatory requirements.

  • Communication: Communicate effectively with dispatchers, supervisors, or other team members to coordinate schedules, report incidents, and update status during transportation operations.

  • Emergency Response: Respond calmly and appropriately to emergencies or accidents on the road, following established procedures for reporting incidents, providing first aid (if trained), and ensuring the safety of passengers, pedestrians, and other motorists.

  • Compliance: Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations governing vehicle operation and transportation activities. This may include compliance with hours of service regulations, vehicle weight limits, and hazardous materials handling requirements.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Valid Driver's License: A driver must possess a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle they will be operating. The license should be appropriate for the vehicle class (e.g., commercial, passenger vehicle, motorcycle) and comply with local regulations.

  • Clean Driving Record: A clean driving record with no major traffic violations, accidents, or driving-related offenses. Employers often conduct background checks on driving records as part of the hiring process.

  • Customer Service Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills are important, especially for drivers who interact with passengers or customers. Professionalism, courtesy, and the ability to handle customer inquiries or concerns are essential.

  • Attention to Detail: Attention to detail is crucial for safe driving, including maintaining awareness of surroundings, checking mirrors and blind spots, and following instructions for vehicle operation and maintenance.

  • Reliability and Punctuality: Dependability and punctuality are critical for drivers who are responsible for transporting passengers, goods, or important deliveries. Employers expect drivers to arrive on time and fulfill their duties reliably.

  • Background Check: Employers may conduct background checks to verify driving history, criminal record, and other relevant information as part of the hiring process.
