The Driver will be responsible for providing safe, reliable, and courteous transportation services for staff, consultants, and visitors; supporting field logistics; and ensuring proper maintenance and compliance of assigned vehicles.
Key duties include:
Safely transporting staff, consultants, and visitors to meetings, project sites, and field missions, ensuring defensive, safety-first driving practices.
Planning routes, optimizing travel time, and navigating across Uganda (and regionally when required).
Conducting daily vehicle inspections (fuel, oil, water, brakes, tyres, lights) and promptly reporting any faults or incidents.
Maintaining vehicles in clean condition and ensuring servicing and preventive maintenance schedules are adhered to.
Ensuring validity of vehicle documentation, including licences, insurance, and inspection certificates.
Maintaining accurate vehicle logs (mileage, fuel consumption, repairs, and trip records).
Supporting logistics activities including delivery and collection of project materials, mail, supplies, and assisting with office errands when not driving.
Ensuring strict compliance with traffic laws, company transport policies, and safety procedures.
Reporting accidents, incidents, or mechanical issues immediately and cooperating with supervisors, insurers, and authorities.
Safeguarding company property, official documents, and maintaining confidentiality of information and passengers.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
UCE (O-Level) or equivalent.
Valid Ugandan Driving Permit: minimum Classes B & DL (CM/CH an added advantage).
3–5 years’ driving experience for a reputable organisation, NGO, embassy, or development project.
Strong knowledge of Ugandan routes and basic vehicle mechanics.
Defensive driving training/certification is an asset.
Clear communication in English; basic record-keeping skills.
Experience supporting international staff preferred.
Willingness to work flexible/long hours, including weekends.
Personal attributes: safety-conscious, courteous, disciplined, reliable, punctual, confidential, culturally sensitive, physically fit for long distances.
