Job Description
Position Title: Driver
Location: Nakivale Refugee Settlement, Uganda
Reports To: WASH Projects Manager
Dotted Line Report: Operations Manager
Department: Administration
Division: CWS Uganda
Grade Level: Grade 2, Technician, National
Contract Duration: 6 months (July 2025 – December 2025)
Purpose of the Role
The Driver is responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation for CWS staff and visitors, as well as logistical and administrative support in the field. This role plays a key part in supporting the implementation of CWS programs, especially within the Nakivale Refugee Settlement.

Field-based work with frequent travel to other CWS locations, including Mbarara and Kampala

How to Apply
Driving & Logistics Support (60%)
Operate CWS vehicles for staff transportation and project-related duties
Ensure cleanliness and routine maintenance of vehicles
Conduct regular vehicle inspections and report issues to the Operations Manager
Transport equipment, supplies, and materials as needed
Adhere to road safety rules and ensure passenger safety at all times
Maintain vehicle fuel levels above half tank and secure loads during transport
Assist with clerical duties such as photocopying and packing for field travel
Perform minor vehicle repairs and maintenance as approved
Source quotations and make small purchases as directed
Compliance (15%)
Follow all CWS vehicle usage and safety policies
Ensure compliance with Ugandan road and traffic laws
Record Keeping & Reporting (20%)
Maintain detailed logs for vehicle mileage, fuel usage, and maintenance
Submit regular vehicle usage reports to the Operations Manager
Keep records of deliveries and office supplies usage
Other Duties (5%)
Carry out additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor
Minimum Requirements:
At least 2 years of professional driving experience (manual and automatic vehicles)
Valid Uganda Driving License classes B, C1, and C
Secondary School education or equivalent
Certificate in Defensive Driving
Added Advantages:
Driving license classes A1 and A2
Familiarity with Nakivale Refugee Settlement and rural Ugandan roads
Experience driving in remote or field locations
Proficiency in Kiswahili
Skills & Abilities
Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance and basic mechanics
Good organizational and time management skills
Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills
Ability to follow directions and communicate clearly in English
Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize under pressure
High level of confidentiality, integrity, and cultural sensitivity
Commitment to CWS values including equity, inclusion, and safeguarding
Safeguarding & Ethical Standards
The Driver is expected to remain vigilant and responsive to safeguarding concerns, particularly in relation to child protection and the prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (PSEAH). The candidate must be familiar with and adhere to CWS’ safeguarding policies and procedures.
