Position Title: Driver (Short-Term)

Duration: 3 Months


Position Overview

Jhpiego is seeking a short-term Driver to support logistical and transportation needs at our Kampala office. The Driver will ensure safe and efficient transportation of staff, equipment, and documents, maintain vehicle logs and servicing schedules, and assist with general office tasks as needed. This position requires flexibility, including early starts, extended hours, and occasional field travel.

How to Apply

  • Safely operate Jhpiego vehicles for official duties and field assignments.

  • Transport staff, equipment, and documents to specified locations in a timely and professional manner.

  • Ensure all passengers wear seat belts at all times and prioritize safety.

  • Adhere strictly to Jhpiego vehicle use policies and Ugandan traffic laws.

  • Refuse travel if safety or policy compliance is compromised (e.g., driving after dark).

  • Keep the assigned vehicle clean, fueled, and equipped with required tools and supplies (e.g., spare tire, first aid kit, life savers).

  • Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks, fuel usage, mileage, and maintenance records.

  • Report vehicle servicing needs, damages, or insurance renewals to the Administration Officer in a timely manner.

  • Perform office errands and administrative tasks such as photocopying, binding documents, and preparing materials for training.

  • Assist with incoming calls, receiving visitors, and other reception duties when needed.

  • Support the Office Assistant and broader team with logistical and office-related activities.

  • Undertake any other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Ugandan Driver’s License with Classes B, CM, and DL.

  • At least 4 years of driving experience in Uganda, including experience with long-distance travel.

  • Certification in Defensive Driving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role within a busy organization.

  • Familiarity with upcountry routes and Ugandan traffic laws.

  • Basic vehicle troubleshooting and maintenance knowledge.

  • Proficiency in English and Luganda.

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently, remain proactive, and adapt to changing work conditions.

  • High level of integrity, discretion, and a team-oriented attitude.
