Job Summary:
DFCU Bank is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Database Administrator to join its IT team. Reporting to the Database Operations Manager, the role is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and optimization of database systems to support high-performing business applications and ensure consistent server uptime. The position also involves supporting data integrity, security, and the operational reliability of the Bank’s data infrastructure.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Install, configure, and maintain the Bank’s relational databases to ensure optimal performance and uptime.
Contribute to the Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plans by developing and maintaining robust failover setups.
Monitor and tune database performance, ensuring secure user access and enforcing data security policies.
Ensure database functionality and adherence to established procedures by all users.
Plan for capacity and storage needs across all database systems.
Analyze application requirements and design specifications for database development and maintenance.
Install, test, and implement new applications and DBMS versions.
Maintain open communication with technical, operational, and applications staff to uphold database integrity and security.
Manage the daily operations of all corporate databases and the data center in line with established policies and procedures.
Maintain accurate documentation of database operations, manuals, and procedures.
Oversee database backup processes and ensure compliance with organizational guidelines.
Plan and conduct routine database maintenance and coordinate with service providers to ensure high-quality service delivery.
Troubleshoot database issues and problems arising from end-of-cycle activities, escalating when necessary.
Monitor performance of end-of-cycle processes and provide reports, highlighting any deviations and proposing actionable recommendations.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, IT, or Computer Engineering from a recognized institution.
Certifications in Oracle and/or Microsoft database technologies are highly desirable.
Proficiency in Microsoft Server OS and UNIX-based systems (e.g., Solaris, Linux).
Strong experience in scripting languages such as Python and Shell.
Solid understanding of SQL and relational database management systems.
Experience with open-source RDBMS platforms such as MySQL.
ITIL Foundation certification is an added advantage.
Experience:
3–5 years of relevant experience in database administration and data center management, preferably within the financial sector.
Experience working with multiple storage and backup systems.
Familiarity with SQL Server High Availability configurations.
Comprehensive understanding of enterprise-level change management processes.
Technical and Soft Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Deep knowledge of banking systems, processes, and operational workflows.
Team player with a proactive mindset and ability to thrive under pressure.
Strong problem-solving skills with critical judgment and decision-making ability.
Demonstrated commitment to knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement.
Goal-oriented, with the ability to set and meet ambitious targets.
Effective communicator who can clearly present technical information.
Leadership capabilities with a focus on team ownership and continuous development.
