Job Description

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain database servers and application tools.

  • Allocate and plan system storage; forecast future capacity needs.

  • Support digital channels and core banking systems; modify database structures per development requirements.

  • Monitor and tune performance using advanced techniques and monitoring suites.

  • Design, implement, and test backup/restore and disaster recovery procedures; manage archived data and retention.

  • Generate reports and conduct data analysis per business requirements.

  • Manage vendor relationships and escalate technical issues.

  • Enroll users, enforce RBAC, and maintain comprehensive security controls.

  • Establish audit trails; conduct regular access and privilege reviews; maintain audit documentation.

  • Participate in regulatory audits/examinations; ensure proper handling of PII and compliance with retention/disposal policies.

  • Establish incident response procedures; coordinate with cybersecurity on threat detection/response.

  • Maintain business continuity plans for critical banking operations.

  • Mentor junior staff and lead database projects where assigned.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain DB servers/tools.

  • Capacity planning: allocate storage and forecast growth.

  • Support core banking and digital channels; implement schema changes.

  • Performance monitoring and tuning (e.g., OEM, SSMS).

  • Backups, recovery, DR testing (RMAN/SQL Server native/third-party).

  • Data archiving and retention compliance.

  • Reporting and business data analysis.

  • Vendor liaison for technical support.

  • User provisioning, RBAC, and security hardening.

  • Audit trails, access reviews, and documentation for audits.

  • Regulatory audit participation and PII protection.

  • Incident response and coordination with cybersecurity.

  • Business continuity planning and maintenance.

  • Team collaboration and mentorship/technical leadership.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  1. Education & Experience

  2. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.

  3. Minimum 3 years’ DBA experience (financial sector preferred).

  4. Professional certifications preferred (Oracle DBA, Microsoft SQL Server).

Technical Expertise

  • Database Platforms: Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL.

  • Programming/Scripting: SQL, PL/SQL, Shell scripting.

  • OS: Linux, Windows Server.

  • Monitoring: Oracle Enterprise Manager, SQL Server Management Studio, Nagios, Zabbix, SolarWinds.

  • Backup: RMAN, SQL Server Backup, third-party tools.

Banking Domain Knowledge

  • Understanding of banking operations/workflows and payment systems.

  • Familiarity with regulatory reporting and risk management.

  • Knowledge of customer data protection requirements.

Soft Skills & Competencies

  • Strong communication—translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.

  • Analytical problem-solving and troubleshooting.

  • Time management and ability to meet deadlines.

  • High attention to detail and data integrity.
