Credit Analyst – Uganda

Location: Uganda
Job Purpose
The Credit Analyst is responsible for assessing the creditworthiness of borrowers, identifying potential risks in credit proposals, and providing objective recommendations for Credit Committee approval. The role ensures that all credit assessments align with the bank’s risk appetite, credit policy, and regulatory requirements while supporting business growth and portfolio quality.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Evaluate loan applications thoroughly and make appropriate recommendations for Credit Committee consideration.
Advise on suitable credit structures based on customers’ business models and financing needs.
Analyze financial statements, credit histories, and collateral to determine borrowers’ repayment capacity.
Recommend, defer, or decline credit applications in line with the bank’s credit policy and risk parameters.
Identify and propose risk mitigation strategies, including diversification, credit enhancements, and structured finance solutions.
Deliver timely and detailed credit analysis reports to Relationship Managers (RMs) and Account Officers (AOs).
Conduct regular training sessions on credit risk management to strengthen RMs’ and AOs’ underwriting skills.
Identify skill gaps within the credit team and recommend relevant training programs.
Report to the Manager, Credit Administration on any findings that may affect loan collateral or borrowers’ repayment ability.
Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the Bank’s lending policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
Identify documentation gaps and ensure prompt resolution by RMs and AOs.
Ensure quick turnaround of credit requests and update the credit application tracker daily.
Propose appropriate pricing (interest rates and fees) balancing risk and return for the bank.
Monitor clients’ financial performance and assess the impact of new or additional credit on their financial health.
Ensure full compliance with AML/CFT policies and procedures.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education & Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
Professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, CFA, or equivalent is an added advantage.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in credit analysis, risk management, or related roles within the banking or financial sector.
Proven experience in evaluating credit risk, financial modeling, and portfolio management.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong analytical, financial, and risk assessment skills.
Excellent communication and report-writing abilities.
Attention to detail with sound judgment and decision-making capability.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and financial analysis tools.
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
