Qualifications, Education and Competencies
The Communications Volunteer will support the Communications Unit and wider organisation to deliver quality services to our funders and stakeholders and help increase WIU visibility. He/she will support the design, development and dissemination of high quality tools and materials, ensuring style and branding compliance, and supporting update of WIU’s website and social media platforms.
The Communications Volunteer, will play a central role in developing WIU online presence and activity to increase reach, engagement and interaction with our various audiences. He/she will provide digital, creative, operational and administrative support to the Communications Unit.
They will stay abreast of trends, developments and opportunities in the communications field. Other tasks, may be assigned based upon organizational need and/or the individuals own strengths or interest.

Digital Communications
Website maintenance and update. This includes uploading new content, updating existing content and liaising with IT Officer for technical support. You will also help ensure we are optimising Google AdWords and Search Engine optimisation (SEO).
Social media accounts: maintain, update and grow our social media presence: Twitter (X),
Facebook, YouTube and Linkedin. This includes developing captivating and engaging
content for both internal and external audiences that shall be boosted on all WIU’s digital platforms
E-Newsletter: format our quarterly e-newsletter with copy provided by Communications Officer, and help develop our e-newsletters to further engage online audiences.
Monitoring, evaluation and reporting: help monitor and evaluate the impact of our digital work, in particular putting together analytics reports for our website, and social media. Provide periodic reports on the digital engagement and performance through weekly social media reports.
Conduct survey monkey/partner surveys to gauge our stakeholders understanding of our work and areas of improvement.
Visual Design & Content Development
Contribute to the design, development and dissemination of high quality tools, knowledge products and communication materials, ensuring style and branding compliance
Support the designing and editing of materials for a range of audiences and contexts, including research and meeting reports, case studies, briefs, toolkits, etc Documentation and Communications support
Document WIU interventions and events through photograph, short videos and stories • Disseminate success stories and case studies to showcase the impact of our work.
Support Communications Team in maintaining a collection of photos, graphics, icons, infographics, video clips to use in various digital content Event planning and coordination
Develop an event calendar to ensure that all key events are organised in a timely and orderly manner.
Develop Talking Points, infographics, and leverage on various partnerships to ensure appropriate media channels are identified to create the most impact for WIU’s initiatives s prior, during and after key activities.
Provide Event reports and data analytics to ensure growth and engagement is monitored for improvement.
Develop a story bank through documenting captivating stories for dissemination to key stakeholder following review by WIU’s Communications and approval teams.

Below are the pre-requisite skills and attributes required:
A good understanding of and interest in social media management (Facebook, Twitter (X) and LinkedIn in a first instance) and in website management,
Ability to transform information summaries into knowledge products and small snippets of information into interesting and engaging stories suitable for Facebook, Twitter (X), etc.
Good knowledge and experience using the Microsoft Package (including Word Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop and or illustrator in priority)
Passionate about access to quality and inclusive information for refugees and host communities
Good design skills and ability to produce engaging content following clear branding guidelines,
Good written communication skills, with accuracy and good attention to detail.
Ability to think creatively when sharing content.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and motivated to work as an individual.
Ability to deal in a professional manner when communicating online.
Basic camera/digital photography skills including skills in handling photography/video equipment
