About the Organisation
Founded in the year 2014, we are dedicated to developing the human interest to observe basic natural laws and adopt the behaviour of living in harmony with nature. We seek a future where there is a balanced relationship between humans and the various natural systems on which they depend in such a way that all the components are accorded a proper degree of sustainability. Over the years our work has been in diverse fields including climate change, circular economy, disaster risk reduction, sustainable agriculture, and renewable energy activism.
Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO) is a youth-led gender-balanced Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that advocates for environmental sustainability and community development. Founded in 2014 in Ghana, GAYO is dedicated to raising awareness, educating, and building the capacity of different stakeholders to adopt sustainable environmental practices that satisfy the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to have a good quality of life. As part of the Green Africa Youth Organization’s aim to expand across other African countries, we have established the GAYO in Uganda office to advance the mission of researching to provide solutions to pressing environmental issues through youth empowerment and public education. To achieve its objective, GAYO works with various institutions and multiple levels of governance to implement climate change, circular economy, and disaster risk reduction projects within communities.

Job Description
Job Title: Communications Intern (No Experience NGO Jobs)
Organisation: Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO)
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
The Programs Intern will support and enhance timely communication of the organization under the guidance of the Communications officer. Responsibilities include designing communication tools, news letters, and content creation. The intern will offer coordination support for flawless implementation of communication plans to enhance reach to diverse audiences.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Content Creation and Management
Draft and publish engaging content for GAYO’s social media platforms, including posts, stories, and campaigns.
Assist in developing multimedia content, including graphics, videos, and blogs, to highlight GAYO’s activities and achievements.
Media Relations
Support the preparation of press releases, newsletters, and articles for media outlets.
Assist in organizing quarterly media interviews and ensuring placement of articles in leading newspapers.
Maintain a media contact database and foster positive relationships with journalists.
Internal and External Communications
Collaborate with the Programs and M&E teams to gather project updates, impact stories, and visuals for documentation.
Support the organization of stakeholder events, workshops, and campaigns by creating promotional materials.
Monitoring and Evaluation
Monitor social media metrics and prepare monthly analytics reports to evaluate engagement and reach.
Collect feedback from stakeholders and the public to improve communication strategies.
Support the documentation of lessons learned and best practices in communication efforts.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
A recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
Proficiency in digital tools and platforms, including Canva, Adobe Suite, and video editing software.
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
Knowledge of social media trends and best practices for engagement.
Computer proficiency is an added advantage
Experience using website content management systems (e.g., WordPress or webflow).
Familiarity with environmental sustainability and climate change concepts is an advantage.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
Working Language: English and Ganda/kiswahili
