Job Summary
The Atomic Energy Council is seeking a skilled Civil Engineer to manage and supervise construction for a five-year project aimed at strengthening Uganda’s regulatory infrastructure for radiation safety and nuclear security. The role involves overseeing the development of a technical support block, laboratories, administrative offices, and related facilities, ensuring all works meet national and international standards.

How to Apply
Project Planning & Design
Collaborate with architects and consultants to review and approve designs.
Develop detailed construction plans, budgets, and timelines.
Ensure all designs comply with Ugandan codes and IAEA safety standards.
Construction Supervision
Oversee all on-site construction activities and timelines.
Conduct quality inspections and monitor compliance with radiation shielding and lab standards.
Verify safe installation of critical infrastructure such as ventilation and shielding systems.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure adherence to the Atomic Energy Act Cap. 143 and other relevant laws.
Work closely with safety officers to integrate protective measures during construction.
Maintain strict radiation safety practices for all stakeholders.
Stakeholder Coordination
Manage communication with contractors, suppliers, and consultants.
Secure permits and approvals from regulatory authorities.
Ensure all infrastructure supports the needs of AEC’s safety and security programs.
Budgeting & Reporting
Track project costs and align with budget constraints.
Provide regular progress and financial reports to the CEO.
Suggest cost-effective solutions without compromising safety or quality.
Risk Management
Identify and mitigate risks like delays, budget overruns, or safety hazards.
Resolve on-site issues promptly and transparently.
Documentation
Maintain construction records, inspection logs, and technical documentation.
Submit final as-built drawings and compliance certifications.

Essential:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in specialized construction projects.
Registration with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB) of Uganda, or eligible for registration.
Strong knowledge of construction management and safety standards.
Desirable:
Experience in atomic energy or radiation safety projects.
Familiarity with IAEA standards and laboratory construction practices.
Proficient in project management and design tools (e.g., MS Project, AutoCAD, Primavera).
Experience working with government or regulatory bodies.
Key Competencies
Technical proficiency in civil engineering for regulated facilities
Strong project planning and execution skills
In-depth knowledge of radiation safety standards
Effective communication and stakeholder coordination
Excellent problem-solving and attention to detail
