Job Description

The Commercial Strategy & Business Development Lead is responsible for developing and executing marketing and sales strategies to drive company growth. This role ensures the achievement of commercial targets and long-term value creation across all areas of operations, with the goal of increasing company sales and profitability. The position reports directly to the Group CEO.

How to Apply

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and oversee the implementation of the company’s commercial vision and strategy to achieve business revenue goals. Lead the Executive Committee in driving commercial growth and guiding business development initiatives.

  • Advisory Role: Provide insights to the Group CEO on marketing trends, competitor strategies, and areas for improvement in the company’s approach to market and sales.

  • Business Development: Lead initiatives in branding, sales force management, product positioning, pricing strategies, and market access. Manage resource planning across the company to support these efforts.

  • Market Research: Monitor trends, policies, and developments in both domestic and international markets to identify new opportunities and threats.

  • Partnerships & Evaluation: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (including Business Development, Finance, Regulatory, Legal, and Compliance teams) to evaluate potential business partners, conduct due diligence, and assess technical feasibility.

  • Customer Acquisition: Recommend strategies for opening new accounts and setting credit limits based on market analysis and risk assessments.

  • Risk Management: Assess risks associated with new initiatives, ensure deadlines are met, and prepare to manage unforeseen challenges.

  • Expansion Opportunities: Identify opportunities for business growth, including partnerships, mergers, and entering new markets.

  • Market Intelligence: Provide insights and intelligence to support strategic decisions on new and existing product developments.

  • Supply Chain Collaboration: Work closely with supply chain teams to ensure ongoing brand growth in both domestic and international markets.

  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain positive relationships with internal teams, clients, contractors, and external partners to capitalize on business opportunities aligned with the company’s long-term strategy.

  • Brand Positioning: Represent the company at industry events and in the corporate marketplace to enhance commercial opportunities.

  • Compliance Oversight: Work with Legal and Compliance teams to ensure proper documentation and compliance for all commercial transactions.

  • Financial Management: Oversee the financial aspects of commercial functions, including budgeting, forecasting, long-term planning, and overall accountability.

  • Team Leadership: Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing team capable of driving exceptional sales growth. Develop and implement staff motivation programs and ensure skill development through ongoing training.

  • Capacity Building: Identify capacity gaps within the team and implement strategies to address these gaps for continuous improvement.

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or a related business field is required. An MBA in Marketing or Business is highly desirable.

  • Experience: Over 10 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in a senior management role, within industries such as manufacturing, distribution, FMCGs, or services.

  • Certifications: Additional certifications in Commercial Management, Supplier Relationship Management, Contract Management, or Procurement are an advantage.

  • Leadership: Strong leadership capabilities with experience managing large, diverse teams and driving business development initiatives.

  • Skills:

    • Expertise in sales strategy, planning, forecasting, and channel management.

    • Proficiency in Customer Value Management (CVM), data analytics, customer profiling, and campaign management.

    • Expertise in brand marketing, digital and social media marketing, and trade marketing.

    • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.

    • Ability to lead and work collaboratively, with conflict resolution and accountability management.

  • Personal Attributes: High energy and drive, innovative, results-oriented, and focused on continuous personal and team development.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Customer-focused, collaborative, and skilled at coaching and developing direct reports.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong presentation abilities.

  • Problem-Solving: Analytical thinker with the ability to develop solutions and adapt to changing business environments.

  • Global Perspective: Ability to think globally and strategically, with strong problem-solving capabilities.
