Job Description
The Carbon Program Manager will lead the strategic development and execution of large-scale nature-based carbon initiatives across Uganda. This senior leadership role involves overseeing all aspects of carbon project development, from feasibility studies to validation, ensuring alignment with international standards and national climate goals.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
- Define and implement the carbon project development strategy for Uganda, ensuring alignment with national climate goals.
- Secure funding and partnerships (corporate buyers, investors, NGOs) to scale project pipelines.
- Oversee end-to-end project cycles: feasibility studies, methodology selection, PDD preparation, validation, and MRV implementation.
- Ensure projects meet technical, financial, and legal requirements for carbon certification.
- Mitigate risks (leakage, reversals, policy changes) through robust planning.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams (carbon scientists, GIS specialists, legal advisors, community engagement officers).
- Represent the company with government agencies, investors, and local communities.
- Foster partnerships with research institutions and carbon market players.
- Monitor evolving carbon standards (e.g., Paris Agreement Article 6, Uganda’s NDCs).
- Integrate innovative approaches (remote sensing, AI for MRV) to enhance project quality.
