Job Description
The Business Counselor will be responsible for executing field-level activities under the REWARDS program, which aims to empower women micro-retailers with disabilities through business training, financial inclusion, and digital access. Counselors will recruit and onboard participants, deliver training, facilitate access to financial and market services, and collect monitoring data. They will work closely with Business Advisors to ensure the program is implemented effectively in Nairobi and Kisumu, contributing to the economic empowerment of low-income women with disabilities and supporting their integration into formal value chains.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct area mapping and identify potential program participants.
Mobilize and recruit women micro-retailers with disabilities using inclusive practices.
Deliver structured business training sessions and offer personalized follow-up support.
Facilitate market and financial linkages between participants and institutions.
Support participants in accessing essential services and products for business growth.
Collect data through surveys and routine monitoring; report progress weekly and monthly.
Document program learnings, success stories, and challenges encountered.
Communicate regularly with Business Advisors and team members for program coordination.
Participate in meetings, planning sessions, and reviews.
Uphold TechnoServe’s mission, values, and code of conduct.
Perform additional duties as required by the Business Advisor or Program Manager.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience in community mobilization, training, or advisory services.
At least 1 year of experience working with micro-retailers or small enterprises preferred.
Familiarity with the Kenyan retail landscape and financial inclusion strategies.
Exposure to digital tools and training platforms.
Experience working with persons with disabilities; basic sign language is a plus.
Strong report writing, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to travel frequently within informal settlements.
Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint).
