Job Description
Position Title: Auto-Technician
Organization: African Initiatives for Relief and Development (AIRD)
Location: Mbarara Authorized Service Centre (ASC), Uganda
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Service Advisor
To support continued service excellence, AIRD is seeking qualified and experienced Ugandan professionals for the position of Auto-Technician.
Job Summary:
The Auto-Technician is responsible for the accurate diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of customer vehicles. The role ensures that all issues are resolved efficiently and correctly on the first attempt, contributing to improved service delivery, workshop throughput, and customer satisfaction.

1. Diagnosis & Repairs
Accurately inspect and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and engine faults in vehicles.
Execute repairs correctly on the first attempt to minimize return jobs.
Identify faulty components and ensure proper replacement and fitting.
2. Routine Maintenance & Inspections
Perform regular servicing tasks including oil changes, fluid checks, and system inspections.
Conduct pre-delivery inspections for all new vehicles to ensure optimal condition before client handover.
3. Quality Control & Safety Compliance
Adhere to Toyota service standards and ensure proper handling of tools, equipment, and vehicles.
Comply with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations, including use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Maintain a clean and organized workstation in accordance with 5S principles.
4. Communication & Reporting
Prepare and submit accurate defect and repair reports to supervisors.
Clearly communicate repair needs and follow up on unresolved or repeat issues.
5. Continuous Learning & Improvement
Participate in ongoing training to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
Suggest and implement improvements to enhance workshop efficiency and reduce vehicle downtime.
6. Other Duties
Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor that align with the role and workshop operations.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Required Skills & Competencies:
Strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience in vehicle diagnostics and repair.
Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work well both independently and within a team.
Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Basic computer proficiency.
High levels of integrity, discipline, and accountability.
Demonstrates initiative and ownership of responsibilities.
Qualifications & Experience:
Diploma or Certificate in Automotive Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in a busy automotive workshop.
Valid driving permit with proven competence in both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
