Job Description
IMK Business Consultants is seeking an Assistant Welding Inspector/ Trainee Welding Inspector to assist the welding inspection team in ensuring all work meets project specifications, codes, and quality standards. The role involves performing visual inspections, supporting non-destructive testing (NDT) activities, and maintaining comprehensive inspection documentation.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
- Perform visual inspection of welds for defects (cracks, porosity, undercut, incomplete fusion, etc.) per drawings, welding procedures, and codes (ASME, AWS, ISO as applicable).
- Assist with non-destructive testing (NDT) preparations and support (UT, RT, MT, PT) under supervision; notify certified NDT technicians as required.
- Measure weld dimensions (leg length, throat, reinforcement) and check fit-up, alignment, and tolerances.
- Verify welding consumables, filler materials, and welder qualifications are in accordance with project specification.
- Monitor and record welding parameters (current, voltage, travel speed, preheat/interpass temperatures) and ensure procedure compliance.
- Prepare and maintain inspection reports, NCRs, punch lists, and other documentation; update inspection logs.
- Assist in root cause investigation and follow-up on corrective actions for welding defects.
- Maintain inspection tools and gauges; calibrate and report tool condition.
- Attend inspections, hold points, and pre-weld meetings; liaise with welding crews, supervisors, and QA/QC personnel.
- Contribute to safety compliance and promote safe work practices in welding areas.
