Job Description
The Assistant Engineer will provide technical support to the Project Coordination Unit by supervising construction works at assigned sites to ensure quality, compliance, and timely project delivery.
Project: Uganda Secondary Education Expansion Project (USEEP)
Key Responsibilities / Result Areas
- Prepare and submit daily, monthly, and quarterly progress reports
- Escalate unresolved site challenges within one day
- Ensure quality standards are maintained at all stages of construction
- Enforce compliance with environmental and social safeguards
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct full-time, day-to-day supervision of construction works
- Monitor contractor performance, including staffing, equipment, and work quality
- Ensure adherence to approved drawings, specifications, and regulations
- Inspect materials and carry out quality control tests (e.g., concrete tests)
- Identify and report design discrepancies to the supervising engineer
- Track project progress and document delays with justification
- Verify site measurements, levels, and structural alignment
- Approve or reject construction materials based on specifications
- Issue site instructions and ensure compliance with contract terms
- Maintain a detailed site diary and submit regular progress reports
- Attend and support site meetings and stakeholder coordination
- Ensure contractor compliance with safety standards and procedures
- Upload daily reports and photos via Kobo Collect Platform
- Review and endorse contractor payment requests in consultation with relevant stakeholders
