Job Description
The successful candidate will undertake plumbing and technical tasks related to the maintenance and upgrading of the City of Tshwane’s water distribution systems. This includes repairing damaged water infrastructure, maintaining valves, meters, and fire hydrants, as well as carrying out installations to upgrade the water reticulation system. The role requires hands-on technical skills, physical fitness, and the ability to perform operational and maintenance work for extended periods. The Artisan (Plumber) will also be required to work overtime and provide standby services when necessary to ensure continuous service delivery.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Repair and maintain pipelines, valves, air valves, water meters, and fire hydrants.
Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on the water reticulation system.
Install new plumbing infrastructure to upgrade the water network.
Respond promptly to water supply issues, breakdowns, and emergencies.
Ensure compliance with municipal safety and technical standards.
Maintain accurate records of repairs, upgrades, and inspections.
Work standby shifts and perform overtime duties when required.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
An appropriate trade certificate as Plumber (Red Seal).
Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience in a municipal water network maintenance environment.
A valid Code C1 driving licence with a valid Professional Driving Permit (PrDP).
Physically fit and in good health, with the ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
Willingness and ability to work overtime and be on standby when required.
Must undergo a criminal record check and consent to fingerprinting by the Tshwane Metro Police Department (at own cost).
