Job Description
The Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD) is implementing the National Apprenticeship and Graduate Volunteer Programme. The Programme aims at improving youth transition into employment and enhancing labour productivity, as part of the national efforts to address the growing challenge of youth unemployment and its ramifications. One of the key objectives of the Programme is to promote employment-based skilling for the unemployed and underemployed young people between the ages of 16 to 35 years, through Apprenticeship training.

Apprenticeships are important because they provide structured, hands-on training to develop essential workforce skills, offering individuals a clear career path and earning potential while simultaneously helping employers to build a skilled, motivated, and loyal workforce. Apprentices receive hands-on training and practical experience by working directly under the supervision of professionals and mentors in a specific field. The Programme is implemented in accordance with the Employment Act, Cap. 226, the Employment Regulations, 2011, and the Uganda National Apprenticeship Framework (UNAF), 2018.
Uganda job marketThe Government of Uganda (GoU) recognizes the need to address youth unemployment and underemployment through Apprenticeship training. To this end, the GoU has allocated funding to support placement of apprentices.
The Ministry now invites eligible applicants to apply for Apprenticeship training opportunities under the NAGV
Programme. Successful candidates will be attached to host institutions that align with their academic qualifications, interests, and skill needs. During the placement, apprentices will actively contribute to the daily operations and strategic activities of the host institution, while acquiring practical skills and experience to enhance their employability.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
- Participate in structured work-based learning under the supervision of experienced professionals and mentors
- Acquire hands-on technical and occupational skills relevant to the assigned field
- Contribute to the daily operations and activities of the host institution
- Adhere to workplace policies, safety standards, and professional conduct
- Actively engage in assessments, mentorship sessions, and skills development activities throughout the programme
