Job Description
The Administration and Finance Assistant will provide essential support in financial management, reporting, and administrative functions for the African Union’s operations. The role involves preparing financial reports, monitoring budgets, ensuring compliance with AU rules and procedures, and maintaining accurate accounting records. The position also requires bank reconciliations, preparation of donor and audit reports, assisting with account closures, and promoting best financial practices. Additionally, the role contributes to resource mobilization strategies, staff coordination, and collaboration with AU departments and external partners to ensure efficiency and transparency in operations.

Ensure reliability of accounting, reporting, and internal control systems.
Prepare financial management reports to monitor budget execution.
Ensure compliance with AU financial rules, regulations, and reporting calendars.
Perform bank reconciliations and monitor open accounting items.
Support monthly and annual account closures and submit reports to management.
Assist in preparing donor financial reports and annual financial statements.
Provide responses to audit queries and ensure compliance with recommendations.
Maintain accurate records of accounts payable and receivable.
Promote transparency, accountability, and best financial practices.
Supervise accounting team members where applicable.
Support preparation of budgets, funding proposals, and reports.
Contribute to resource mobilization efforts.
Produce regular financial reports and monitor expenditures.
Collaborate with AU departments, Member States, and partners to ensure smooth operations.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Diploma in Financial Management, Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field with at least 3 years of relevant professional experience; OR
Bachelor’s degree in the same fields with at least 2 years of relevant professional experience.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and internal control systems.
Proficiency in financial information systems and international accounting standards.
Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written).
Conscientious in meeting deadlines and delivering results.
Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Familiarity with international/regional policy processes is an asset.
Proficiency in one AU working language (Arabic, English, French, Kiswahili, Portuguese, or Spanish); fluency in another AU language is an added advantage.
