Job Description
Job Title: Accountant
Organisation: Omia Agribusiness Development Group Limited
Duty Station: Arua, Uganda
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and cash flow reports.
Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings or revenue enhancement.
Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes for different departments or the overall company.
Accounts Payable and Receivable:
Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes to ensure timely payments and collections.
Maintain accurate records of financial transactions and process invoices, receipts, and other financial documents.
Tax Compliance and Audits:
Ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations, preparing and filing necessary tax returns (e.g., VAT, income tax).
Assist with internal and external audits, ensuring all financial practices and records meet legal and organizational standards.
Cash Flow Management:
Monitor cash flow, ensure the availability of funds for operations, and manage working capital.
Optimize liquidity by managing short-term financial resources.
Inventory and Cost Control:
Support inventory management by calculating costs, tracking agricultural goods, and ensuring proper valuation.
Monitor and analyze cost structures, suggesting ways to reduce expenses and improve financial efficiency.
Financial Forecasting and Budgeting:
Work closely with management to create annual budgets and financial plans aligned with the company’s growth objectives.
Forecast revenue and expenses, adjusting financial plans based on changing market conditions.
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure the business adheres to agricultural industry-specific regulations, financial reporting standards, and other compliance requirements.
Stay updated on changes in financial regulations that impact the agribusiness sector.
Collaboration and Reporting:
Communicate financial information to stakeholders, including management, investors, and external auditors.
Collaborate with various departments (e.g., operations, production) to support financial decision-making.
System Maintenance and Improvement:
Oversee the maintenance of financial systems and software, ensuring they are up-to-date and effective for business operations.
Propose system or process improvements to enhance accounting accuracy and efficiency.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Have at least a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, such as finance or business administration.
With 3 or more years of experience in accounting and finance
