Position: Finance Interns (2 Positions)

Duration: 3 Months (Learning placement)
Opportunity Overview
SNV Uganda is offering two internship opportunities in its Finance Department. This is a hands-on learning placement designed to give interns real-world experience in financial operations within an international NGO setting.
Interns will gain practical skills in:
Cash and bank management
Payment processing and invoice handling
Financial documentation and record-keeping
Accounting software (SAP)
Grant finance monitoring
Financial reporting support

Maintain and reconcile cashbooks
Coordinate end-of-month and surprise cash counts
Monitor bank balances and prevent overdrafts
Expenditure Review & Coding
Verify payment requests and supporting documents

Financial Documentation & Filing
Properly file and archive financial documents
Retrieve documents for audits and reporting
Accounting Systems (SAP)
Post transactions and project invoices in SAP
Understand monthly accounting cycles and reconciliations
Grant Financial Monitoring
Review financial reports from grantees
Support compliance checks and monthly expense tracking
Financial Reporting
Assist with data compilation for internal and donor reports
Conduct variance analysis and support in clearing account items
Invoice Processing
Learn the end-to-end invoice workflow: entry, approval, and follow-up
Who We’re Looking For
Education & Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Studies, or related field
Prior exposure to finance or accounting through coursework, internships, or volunteer roles (preferably with NGOs)
Skills & Attributes:
Familiarity with accounting software and principles
Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset
Effective communicator and team player
Willingness to learn, take initiative, and adapt in a dynamic environment
Computer literacy and solid documentation skills
Openness to occasional travel
Additional Information
Type: Internship (non-employment)
Duration: 3 months
Supervision: Mentored by the Deputy Country Finance Manager
Outcome: Practical exposure to international NGO finance and accounting systems
