Job Description
The role will lead all external affairs and public policy functions across Tiger Brands, focusing on proactive stakeholder engagement, policy influence, governance, and risk management. The Director will oversee issue mapping and response strategies, manage industry and government relations, ensure compliance with governance and reporting standards, and continuously improve stakeholder engagement practices. This position also involves leading a high-performing team, supporting cross-functional collaboration, and representing Tiger Brands in national and industry-level policy discussions.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Develop and execute stakeholder engagement strategies with government, business, and community partners.
Lead the company’s policy and regulatory influence efforts in an ethical and effective manner.
Manage industry and business organization memberships, ensuring impactful representation.
Implement methodologies to monitor and respond to public policy changes affecting Tiger Brands.
Oversee issue mapping, tracking, and risk mitigation.
Lead the preparation of policy position papers and issue responses.
Apply frameworks for measuring stakeholder relationship quality and implement continuous improvement.
Ensure governance through policies, standard operating procedures, and compliance reporting.
Prepare reports for the Integrated Annual Report, ExCo, board, and Social, Ethics & Sustainability Committee.
Manage and develop the External Affairs and Public Policy team, including performance and career growth.
Foster collaboration across ExCo, business units, and Corporate Affairs to deliver on strategic priorities.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Communications, Economics, or related fields.
Experience:
At least 10 years in corporate/public affairs leadership roles.
Proven experience in stakeholder management, policy influence, and regulated industries.
Strong track record of engagement with government at municipal, provincial, and national levels.
Competencies:
Strong influencing, negotiating, and stakeholder-first mindset.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
High emotional intelligence, with ability to handle hostile or challenging engagements.
Ability to work under pressure in dynamic, complex environments.
Problem-solving and strategic policy engagement expertise.
