Non- governmental Organization
Kampala, Uganda
Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) is a non-governmental organization established in May 2000 by several women's organizations in Uganda, with the mission to promote and support the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) among women and women's organizations, enabling them to address national and local sustainable development challenges effectively. Recognized for its pioneering role in integrating ICTs into women's empowerment initiatives, WOUGNET has been instrumental in advocating for gender-sensitive ICT policies and programs, earning accolades such as the World Summit Award in 2003 for "Inclusion & Empowerment" and the Democracy Innovation Award in 2013 at the World Forum for Democracy.
The organization fosters a collaborative and inclusive work culture, offering job opportunities that align with its mission and values. Over the years, WOUGNET has evolved from a grassroots initiative into a leading force in gender and ICT advocacy, employing a business model that emphasizes community engagement, policy advocacy, and capacity building. With a membership of over 100 organizations across Uganda, WOUGNET's reach extends nationwide, impacting communities through various programs and initiatives.
Core values include teamwork, gender sensitivity, integrity, excellence, commitment, passion, and inclusiveness. While specific corporate social responsibility initiatives are not detailed, WOUGNET's work inherently contributes to community development and social change.
