Uganda is in mourning following the heartbreaking news of two prominent figures passing away within days of each other — Dorothy Kakonge, the Finance and Operations Manager at Radio Simba, and Cedric Babu, a respected businessman and friend to many, including General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Radio Simba confirmed the untimely death of their beloved Finance and Operations Manager, Dorothy Kakonge, who passed away on June 1, 2025, after a brief illness. Her sudden demise sent shockwaves across the media industry and the wider Ugandan community.
Dorothy was praised for her professionalism, commitment, and leadership at one of Uganda’s leading radio stations. Following the announcement, an outpouring of grief and condolences flooded social media, with fans, colleagues, and listeners expressing heartfelt messages to her family and the entire Radio Simba team.

Grief: Businessman Cedric Babu Succumbs to Heart Disease in Nairobi
In a separate but equally tragic incident, Ugandan businessman and political figure Cedric Babu was reported to have passed away after battling heart disease. According to sources, Cedric had been flown to a hospital in Nairobi, Kenya for specialized treatment. Despite the efforts of family, friends, and the public—many of whom rallied on social media to raise funds for his treatment—he unfortunately did not survive.
His death drew an emotional response from General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his sorrow and admiration for Cedric’s legacy:
“Cedric was a businessman and was equally successful there at a young age. He was a nationalist and a patriot. Where many children of Uganda's elite families eschew politics, Cedric had the courage to participate in the governance of his country.”
National Tributes Pour In

The dual loss of Dorothy Kakonge and Cedric Babu has struck a deep chord in Uganda, with tributes continuing to pour in from across the country. Their contributions in both the corporate and political spaces left a mark on many, and their absence will be deeply felt.
As Uganda reflects on their lives, may their souls rest in eternal peace.
🙏 Rest in Peace, Dorothy Kakonge & Cedric Babu. Your legacy lives on.
