Loading and unloading cargo onto and from the truck, ensuring proper weight distribution, securing cargo with straps, chains, or other restraints, and adhering to loading and unloading procedures to prevent damage or accidents.

Responsible for transporting, and handling goods/deliveries to customers in a safe and timely manner.

  • Adhere to safety policies and work instructions.

  • Report and participate in the investigation of incidents and accidents that occur at the work place.

  • Identify any hazards that are likely to occur in the course of work and report to your supervisor.

  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time

  • Driving: Operating commercial trucks to transport goods over short or long distances, following traffic laws, regulations, and safety standards.

  • Vehicle Inspection: Conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck and its components, including brakes, tires, lights, and cargo securement, to ensure roadworthiness and compliance with safety regulations.

  • Cargo Handling: Loading and unloading cargo onto and from the truck, ensuring proper weight distribution, securing cargo with straps, chains, or other restraints, and adhering to loading and unloading procedures to prevent damage or accidents.

  • Route Planning: Planning and optimizing travel routes to minimize travel time, fuel consumption, and delivery delays. Utilizing GPS navigation systems, maps, and traffic reports to identify the most efficient routes and avoid road hazards or construction zones.

  • Time Management: Managing driving hours, rest breaks, and delivery schedules to meet customer deadlines and delivery requirements while adhering to legal limitations on driving hours and mandatory rest periods.

  • Documentation: Completing paperwork, logs, and electronic records accurately and legibly, including trip reports, delivery receipts, bills of lading, and inspection forms, to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements.

  • Communication: Communicating effectively with dispatchers, shippers, receivers, and other stakeholders to coordinate pickups, deliveries, and route changes. Providing updates on delivery status, traffic conditions, and any issues or delays encountered during transit.

  • Safety: Operating vehicles safely and defensively, maintaining situational awareness, and adhering to safe driving practices to prevent accidents, injuries, and property damage. Following company safety policies and procedures, including wearing seat belts, avoiding distractions, and obeying speed limits.

  • Customer Service: Providing excellent customer service to clients and customers by delivering goods on time, handling inquiries and concerns professionally, and representing the company in a positive and courteous manner.

  • Maintenance: Performing basic maintenance tasks and minor repairs on the truck, such as checking fluid levels, changing tires, and replacing light bulbs, to ensure vehicle reliability and performance between scheduled maintenance intervals.

  • Certificate in Motor vehicle mechanics or related field

  • Minimum 5 years driving experience as a truck driver from a reputable company.

  • Must have a valid national driving permit with minimum class C,

  • Knowledge of current traffic rules and regulations, physical ability to drive for long hours and long distances, ability to communicate competently and understand instructions in English and common local language/s, flexibility to work outside normal working hours

  • Deliver goods intact to customers on time.

  • Supervise and participate in loading and offloading of materials/goods and follow-up on the relevant paperwork.

  • Confirm and record material deliveries to customers.

  • Refuel and keep the car clean

  • Follow traffic laws, and ensure the company car is parked in valid parking spaces to avoid towing.

  • Inspect vehicle and record issues.

  • Follow accident procedures and report any road incidents to the fleet coordinator.

  • Report mechanical problems and overdue routine service to fleet coordinator.

  • Plan routes to avoid traffic congestion.

  • Maintain a positive attitude with workmates and

  • Report expired driver’s license and vehicle insurance to fleet coordinator.

  • Keep an activity log and fuel refuels in the vehicle logbook

  • Fulfill administrative needs like office pickups, manager drop-offs etc.

  • Collect cheques on behalf of the sales team when requested.

  • Obtain customer signatures when needed
