The U.S. Mission to the United Nations (USUN) serves as the United States’ delegation to the United Nations. USUN is responsible for carrying out the nation’s participation in the world body. In 1947 the United States Mission was created by an act of Congress to assist the President and the Department of State in conducting United States policy at the United Nations. Since that time, USUN has served a vital role as the Department of State’s UN branch. Today, USUN has approximately 150 people on staff who serve to represent the United States’ political, economic and social, legal, military, public diplomacy and management interests at the United Nations.
USUN is divided into the following sections – Executive; Washington; Political; Management and Reform; Economic and Social; Legal; Military Staff; Public Affairs; Host Country; Management; and Security.
The United States Mission to the United Nations is located at 799 United Nations Plaza (between E. 44th and E. 45th on First Ave) across the street from United Nations Headquarters.
Special Consular Assistant job at U.S. Mission
U.S. Mission
The U.S. Mission in Uganda is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Special Consular Assistant.
The work schedule for this position is:
Full Time, 40 hours per week
Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time following receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
The Special Consular Services Assistant is responsible for efficient and timely processing of immigrant visas and reports directly to the Supervisory Consular Specialist.
The incumbent performs a broad range of services including managing adoptions petitions, processing V92 Asylee Follow-to-Join cases and Special immigrant visas for U.S. government employees

• Completion of University Studies is required.
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of four years of work experience in an office and public service environment is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
A good understanding of host country laws and authorities on migratory trends, demographics, and border controls is required.
Evaluations:
LANGUAGE:
English level 3 (Good working knowledge) speaking and writing ability is required, Luganda Level 3 (Good working knowledge) speaking, reading and writing ability and Lusoga Level 3 (Good working knowledge) speaking, reading and writing ability is required. This may be tested.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required. Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with a team is required. Fast and accurate data entry; ability to read, interpret, and act accordingly to complex regulations and instructions; work independently; exercise tact in dealing with the public; work under continuous pressure; exercise good judgement in referring cases to officers; and write clear and concise correspondence is required.
Ability to use local resources to research legislation and policy, and to produce written information handouts for visa applicants is required. This may be tested.
