Job Description
perform diagnostic patient care services using an ultrasound machine to view and interpret images with sound waves for the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions. Operate equipment, perform and communicate results during diagnostic examinations.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
- Review client medical history and supporting clinical information and communicate with the client in a manner appropriate to the client’s ability to understand the procedure.
- Conduct client clinical assessment and perform the diagnostic medical sonography examination ordered by the supervising physician in accordance with professional and facility protocols.
- Review examination images, synthesize examination results, and prepare the preliminary findings.
- Oversee and perform diagnostic patient care services for the facility duty station as stated at the time of appointment.
- Apply independent judgment during the sonography examination to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images.
- Assume responsibility for the safety of the client during the sonographic examination.
- Maintain client privacy and confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws (e.g., Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act HIPAA) and RHU facility policies, and procedures.
- Use proper client positioning tools, devices, equipment adjustment, and ergonomically correct scanning techniques to ensure client comfort and safety, and to prevent compromised data acquisition and musculoskeletal injury to the sonographer.
- Generate demand for ultrasound services by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to drive client volumes.
- Prepare exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations in accordance with infections disease, sterilization, and client safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure radiation safety measures and protection devices are used and observed to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff.
- Perform regular stock inventory and ensure proper storage of materials; make requisitions for materials as required.
- Identify and document any limitations to the sonography examination and escalate as appropriate.
- Ensure accurate documentation and care of patients’ records
- Assume responsibility for the preventive maintenance for ultrasound equipment to ensure it operates at optimal level at all times
- Operate the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS)
Outputs and Outcomes
- Clients’ medical history and supporting clinical information reviewed.
- Client clinical assessment and diagnostic medical sonography examination performed.
- Examination images, synthesized examination results, and prepared the preliminary findings reviewed.
- Diagnostic patient care services for branch duty station performed
- Independent judgment during the sonography examination applied.
- Clients’ safety during the sonographic examination assumed.
- Clients’ privacy and confidentiality maintained.
- Proper client positioning tools, devices, equipment adjustment, and ergonomically correct scanning techniques used.
- Demand for ultrasound services generated.
- Exam room and ultrasound equipment to conduct sonography examinations prepared.
- Radiation safety measures and protection devices used and observed.
- Regular stock inventory and ensured proper storage of materials
- Accurate documentation and care of patients’ records ensured.
