Job Description
The Service Engineer will play a crucial role in delivering high-level technical expertise and mentoring to local engineering teams. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and repairing Caterpillar machinery, preparing technical reports, leading major reworks and rebuilds, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and overseeing warranty claims and new machine assemblies. The role demands excellent diagnostic and leadership skills and a commitment to high performance and safety.
The Service Engineer will be expected to work on-site across various Mantrac territories in Ghana and other African countries, with full relocation support provided for international candidates.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Provide technical guidance and hands-on support to local engineers
Troubleshoot and repair Caterpillar machinery in workshops and on-site
Lead teams during major repairs and reworks
Prepare detailed technical reports and failure analyses
Conduct job completion inspections using Cat Inspect tools
Supervise warranty processes and root cause analysis
Ensure adherence to Caterpillar and Mantrac repair standards
Oversee assembly and logistics of new machine projects
Collaborate with product support and service teams
Promote full dealership services (Parts, Equipment Sales, Multi-brand, etc.)
Enforce and maintain safety procedures, including LOTO practices
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education and Certifications:
NVQ Level 3 or higher
Trade qualification (e.g., City & Guilds or equivalent)
Experience:
Minimum of 4 years’ experience with heavy equipment, particularly Caterpillar machinery
Skills and Competencies:
Strong technical troubleshooting and repair capabilities
Excellent leadership and mentoring skills
Effective communication and team management
High level of safety awareness and compliance
Willingness to relocate and work across African territories
Strong reporting and analytical skills
