National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO)

The National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) is an agency of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF)
With the mandate to coordinate and oversee all aspects of public-funded agricultural research in Uganda.
Established as a body corporate by the National Agricultural Research Act of 2005, NARO comprises a Governing Council, a Secretariat and 16 Public Agricultural Research Institutes (PARIs) spread across the country.

NARO is mandated to undertake research in all aspects of agriculture including crops, livestock, fisheries, forestry, Agro-machinery, natural resources and socio-economics.
The National Agricultural Research Organization was established by the National Agricultural Research Act 2005 as a body corporate with the mandate to provide strategic direction for publically funded agricultural research in Uganda. The organization is composed of the Council as its governing body, Committees of Council, a Secretariat for its day-to-day operations, and semi-autonomous Public Agricultural Research Institutes (PARI's) under its policy guidance. The Director General invites suitably qualified Ugandans to apply for the following positions at the NARO Secretariat and respective PARIS.

  • The Senior Research Officer-Animal Production is responsible for planning, implementing and coordinating research activities on animal production and health at the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO).

  • The officer will also provide technical guidance and supervision to junior researchers and technicians, and liaise with stakeholders and partners in the livestock sector.

  • The officer should have a PhD in animal science, veterinary medicine or a related field, with at least five years of relevant experience in research and development.

  • The officer should also have excellent communication, leadership and management skills, as well as a proven track record of publications and grants.

  • The officer should be able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, and be willing to travel within and outside the country as required.
