The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) is a semi-autonomous institution, established in May 1995, as the principal agency in Uganda, charged with the responsibility of coordinating, monitoring, regulating and supervising environmental management in the country.
NEMA spearheads the development of environmental policies, laws, regulations, standards and guidelines; and guides Government on sound environment management in Uganda. In doing this, NEMA contributes to social-economic development and wise use of natural resources, focusing on providing support to Government’s main goal of ensuring sustainable development contributing to the National Vision, the National Development Plan (NDP), regional and global commitments including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

How to Apply
Lead the development and execution of the section’s work plans and budgets, and prepare timely reports including updates on court cases.
Coordinate NEMA’s legal representation in all civil litigation matters.
Manage witnesses and evidence to secure successful outcomes in civil cases.
Provide legal advice and support on legislative drafting processes.
Offer legal guidance on Multilateral Environmental Agreements, Treaties, and Conventions during negotiations and implementation.
Represent NEMA in Civil Courts at all jurisdictional levels.
Support training and assist with drafting bylaws and ordinances for Local Governments.
Oversee the negotiation and drafting of legal documents.
Provide comprehensive legal advisory services to the Authority.
Supervise, mentor, and appraise legal staff.
Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Law from a recognized university.
Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
Master’s Degree in Law.
Enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda.
Valid practicing certificate (except where exempted for government employment).
Experience
Minimum of three (3) years post-qualification experience in legal practice with a focus on civil litigation in Uganda.
