Job Description

The Senior Legal Advisor will be responsible for providing proactive legal advice and compliance support to internal stakeholders across Nedgroup Investments. The role includes drafting, vetting, and negotiating contracts, engaging with regulators on fund and Section 65 applications, and advising on CISCA, PFA, FICA, FATCA, CRS, FAIS, and ITA compliance. The advisor will also monitor legislative changes, comment on draft legislation, and support industry body engagements to shape the legal environment. Additionally, the role involves preparing legal articles, presentations, and training sessions, advising on technology-related developments (e.g., digital onboarding platforms), and leveraging AI to enhance efficiencies. The incumbent will play a key role in fostering stakeholder relationships, enhancing business processes, and minimizing legal risks.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide proactive legal advice and mitigate asset management legal risk.

  • Draft, vet, and negotiate contracts.

  • Liaise with regulators on fund and Section 65 applications.

  • Monitor, interpret, and implement changes in legislation.

  • Write legal articles and conduct internal training and presentations.

  • Engage with financial planners and internal/external stakeholders.

  • Participate in industry bodies to shape the legal environment.

  • Ensure compliance with CISCA, PFA, FICA, FATCA, CRS, FAIS, ITA, and other regulatory frameworks.

  • Comment on draft legislation and regulatory notices.

  • Support development of technology platforms (e.g., digital onboarding).

  • Apply AI and legal tech tools to create efficiencies.

  • Conduct gap analysis and compliance risk assessments.

  • Participate in external audits and follow up on recommendations.

  • Foster stakeholder relationships and promote legal awareness.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Essential:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Postgraduate Degree.

  • 5–7 years’ experience as a Legal Advisor, preferably in asset management/financial services.

  • Knowledge of unit trusts, retirement funds, investment policies, and tax-free investments.

  • Expertise in CISCA, PFA, FICA, FATCA, CRS, FAIS, and ITA.

  • Strong business acumen, risk management, and governance knowledge.

  • Excellent communication, decision-making, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred:

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning (CFP).

  • Experience using AI or technology-driven legal solutions.

Behavioural Competencies:

  • High personal presentation standards.

  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and well-organized.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and innovation skills.

  • Collaborative and effective communicator with diverse stakeholders.
