About the Organisation
The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) is a semi-autonomous institution, established in May 1995, as the principal agency in Uganda, charged with the responsibility of coordinating, monitoring, regulating and supervising environmental management in the country.
NEMA spearheads the development of environmental policies, laws, regulations, standards and guidelines; and guides Government on sound environment management in Uganda. In doing this, NEMA contributes to social-economic development and wise use of natural resources, focusing on providing support to Government’s main goal of ensuring sustainable development contributing to the National Vision, the National Development Plan (NDP), regional and global commitments including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Position Overview
The Senior Investigation Officer will assist in planning, coordinating, and conducting effective investigations into environmental crimes to support prosecution efforts and deter environmental offenses.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Assist the Principal Investigations Officer in managing all ongoing investigations, ensuring effective collaboration with the legal division.
Develop comprehensive plans for managing environmental crime investigations nationwide.
Prepare detailed case files for prosecution purposes.
Appear in court to present evidence as required.
Conduct crime scene visits to support suspect tracking and arrests.
Ensure proper collection and handling of evidence for court proceedings to facilitate successful prosecutions.
Coordinate with intelligence agencies and law enforcement to combat environmental crime.
Support the prosecution process for environmental offenses.
Develop and implement quarterly work plans and submit timely performance reports for the unit.
Supervise and appraise staff within the investigation unit.
Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Psychology, Criminology, Environment and Natural Resources, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Business Administration, or Development Studies from a recognized university or institution.
Master’s Degree in one of the above fields is required.
Completion of para-military training and formal investigation service training.
Certificate of Good Conduct issued by Interpol.
Experience
Minimum of three (3) years’ professional experience in crime investigations within a reputable organization.
Skills and Competencies
Strong leadership, team-building, and supervisory abilities.
Proficiency in Information Communication Technology (ICT).
Ability to build effective relationships and networks.
Excellent analytical, operational, and management skills.
Knowledge of intelligence gathering and investigative techniques.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong coordination and time management abilities.
High ethical standards, integrity, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Skilled in writing clear reports and documentation.
Competent in planning, organizing, and coordinating complex assignments.
Risk management expertise.
