Job Description
Reporting to the Finance Officer in Dakar, the Senior Finance Assistant will manage accounting and financial operations for the Nairobi office. This includes local vendor payments, transaction reviews, asset management, journal entries, reconciliations, reporting, and budget monitoring. The role involves working closely with country heads, admin teams, and finance units across the Africa region to ensure financial integrity, efficient resource use, and strong internal controls. The incumbent will also support procurement processes, staff onboarding, compliance audits, and serve as a liaison with internal and external stakeholders including banks and audit teams.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Process timely vendor payments and e-payable transactions
Review and correct expense reports, ensuring proper authorization
Manage journal entries, payroll adjustments, staff loans, and travel advances
Oversee asset inventory, registration, and disposal in compliance with policy
Monitor and replenish imprest accounts and petty cash
Prepare Monthly Statement Reports and support budget reporting
Forecast overheads and support emergency preparedness
Ensure recovery of staff receivables and close purchase orders
Guide staff and vendors on finance systems and policies
Support audits, internal reviews, and implement action plans
Maintain compliance with procurement and finance regulations
Coordinate with Chennai teams and liaise with banks and finance colleagues
Assist with onboarding and financial clearances during staff exits
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or Economics
At least 3 years of experience in finance or accounting roles
CPA, CMA, CIMA, ACCA, or similar certification is a plus
Proficiency in financial reporting, budgeting, and cost allocations
Strong analytical, data interpretation, and communication skills
Experience with SAP and data analytics tools (e.g., Power BI) preferred
Strong understanding of internal controls and risk management
Ability to work under pressure in a multicultural environment
Excellent teamwork, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Fluency in English is required
