Job Description
The Senior Development Manager, Africa will develop and implement a regional funding plan, research donor strategies, lead high-quality proposal development, negotiate donor agreements, and ensure donor compliance. They will also strengthen capacity within teams through training and mentorship, build and maintain donor relationships, and contribute to fundraising strategy and donor engagement at regional and international levels.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Develop and implement a regional funding strategy aligned with donor priorities.
Conduct research into donor strategies and identify funding opportunities.
Lead high-quality proposal development, budgeting, and alignment with project goals.
Negotiate donor contract terms and conditions.
Transition management of secured funds to project implementation teams.
Strengthen internal and partner fundraising capacities through training and mentoring.
Build and maintain positive relationships with regional and international donors.
Represent FFI at relevant meetings, working groups, and events.
Undertake any additional tasks requested by the line manager.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Essential:
Higher degree or equivalent qualification in conservation or a related subject.
Proven track record of leading and securing large-scale funding proposals (>USD 1 million).
Experience in securing funds from multilateral, bilateral, and private sector donors.
Proven ability to influence donor priorities and negotiate grant agreements.
Strong technical background in conservation.
Experience working with remote, multi-cultural teams.
Mentorship experience and ability to deliver training materials.
Fluent in English with excellent communication and presentation skills.
Desirable:
Experience leading complex conservation or development projects in developing countries, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Familiarity with Fauna & Flora’s operational landscapes and conservation issues.
