Job Description
Position: Senior Associate, Nutritious Foods Financing
Organization: Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN)
Location: Kampala, Uganda or Kigali, Rwanda
Contract Type: Fixed Term (16 months, subject to funding availability)
About the Role
GAIN is seeking a Senior Associate, Nutritious Foods Financing to provide tailored technical assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Sub-Saharan Africa under the Nutritious Foods Financing Facility (N3F). This role will also contribute to GAIN’s broader work in innovative financing within the Nourishing Food Pathways (NFP) initiative.
This is a 16-month fixed-term position and will be based in Kampala, Uganda or Kigali, Rwanda.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Collaborate with partner investment officers to assess technical assistance needs of SMEs within the N3F pipeline.
Develop and implement customized technical support packages and group training sessions for SMEs in the nutritious food value chain.
Monitor project implementation and ensure all interventions offer maximum value for money.
Refine tools, procedures, and feedback mechanisms to improve the delivery of technical assistance.
Work closely with GAIN’s Knowledge Leadership and partners’ Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) teams.
Manage activities related to innovative financing under the Nourishing Food Pathways program, including research and partnerships.
Represent GAIN at national and regional technical meetings, workshops, and events.
Maintain current knowledge of the food and agriculture financing landscape, and identify key partners and opportunities for collaboration and communication (e.g., blog posts, articles).
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
Professional experience supporting SMEs, ideally through an accelerator, incubator, or technical assistance facility in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Solid understanding of impact investing and innovative financing approaches.
Proven ability to help SMEs grow, scale operations, and succeed in their business environments.
Strong analytical, research, and report writing skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, particularly in multicultural and multilingual settings.
Flexibility to travel and operate in challenging environments when necessary.
Remuneration
Salary Range (Gross Annual):
Uganda: UGX 63,781,560 – UGX 72,955,200
Rwanda: RWF 20,091,660 – RWF 22,921,476
