Senior Advisor, Food Fortification

Job Description

Reporting to the Global Food Systems Adviser, the Senior Advisor will provide strategic and technical leadership to food fortification programs, supporting both large producers and small- to medium-sized enterprises. Responsibilities include program oversight, policy advocacy, private sector engagement, data-driven learning, and representation at regional and global platforms. The Advisor will also collaborate with the Center for Program Impact, VP for Nutrition, and regional teams to drive innovation, ensure program quality, and shape global food fortification agendas.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Technical Strategy and Oversight

  • Lead technical direction for food fortification programs across countries

  • Support country teams and private-sector partners in evidence-based fortification efforts

  • Assist SMEs with technology, finance, QA, and scaling strategies

  • Oversee execution and quality of fortification-related projects

  • Develop tools and standards to ensure quality and scalability

  • Support proposal development and global positioning

Policy and Advocacy Leadership

  • Shape and implement national and regional policy agendas

  • Conduct policy analysis and engage regulatory stakeholders

  • Align fortification efforts with national nutrition frameworks

Learning and Evidence

  • Lead research initiatives and knowledge dissemination

  • Promote data use for program improvement

  • Engage in global technical working groups and communities of practice

Monitoring and Continuous Improvement

  • Establish systems for external quality monitoring and regulatory enforcement

  • Strengthen national data tracking for fortified foods

  • Use insights to drive improvements and reporting

Private Sector Engagement

  • Build partnerships with manufacturers and SMEs

  • Provide capacity building, financing access, and market intelligence

  • Promote sustainable, scalable business models

Global Representation

  • Represent Helen Keller Intl at regional/global forums

  • Contribute to funding proposals and strategic positioning

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

Academic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Public Health, Food Technology, or a related field

Experience:

  • 8–10 years of experience in large-scale food fortification, preferably in low- and middle-income countries

  • Proven engagement with SMEs, policy-makers, and private sector stakeholders

  • Experience managing multi-country programs and providing technical assistance

  • Strong policy and advocacy background

  • Excellent communication and cross-cultural collaboration skills
