Job Description
The duties of a School Matron can vary depending on the size and type of the school, as well as specific organizational needs
Duties and Responsibilities
Student Welfare:
Overseeing the general well-being and welfare of students, including their physical, emotional, and social needs.
Providing support and guidance to students, particularly in matters relating to health, hygiene, and personal development.
Monitoring students' behavior and addressing any disciplinary issues in collaboration with school authorities.
Healthcare and First Aid:
Managing the school's healthcare facilities and coordinating medical services for students.
Administering first aid and basic medical care to students in case of illness, injury, or emergencies.
Keeping records of students' medical history, allergies, and any special healthcare needs.
Residential Supervision:
If the school offers boarding facilities, overseeing the day-to-day operation of the dormitories or boarding houses.
Ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and comfort of boarding facilities.
Supervising boarding students outside of school hours and providing guidance on personal routines, study habits, and recreational activities.
Nutrition and Meal Supervision:
Collaborating with the school's catering services to ensure the provision of nutritious meals that meet dietary requirements and preferences.
Monitoring students' eating habits and promoting healthy eating practices.
Addressing any food-related concerns or allergies among students.
Parental Communication:
Serving as a liaison between the school administration and parents/guardians regarding students' welfare and health-related matters.
Communicating with parents about their child's well-being, health concerns, and any incidents that may occur at school.
Staff Support:
Providing support and guidance to other staff members, such as residential assistants or healthcare personnel, who may assist in student welfare duties.
Collaborating with teachers, counselors, and other school staff to ensure a holistic approach to student support and development.
Crisis Management:
Being prepared to respond to crises or emergencies involving students, such as accidents, illnesses, or mental health crises.
Implementing emergency protocols and coordinating with relevant authorities, such as emergency services or medical professionals, as needed.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintaining accurate records and documentation related to student welfare, health incidents, and medical care provided.
Reporting any significant incidents or concerns to the school administration and, if necessary, to relevant authorities or regulatory bodies.
Qualifications and Competencies
Compassionate and caring nature
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Basic understanding of child development and behavior
Patience and the ability to handle sensitive situations
High school diploma or equivalent
Proficiency in spoken and written English
Must have a National ID
Working experience of 3 years
