Job Description
The Sales Representative (Counter) manages the full sales cycle at the counter and in the field: engaging walk-in and trade customers, preparing quotations, following up to convert to orders, and resolving queries promptly. The role conducts basic market research to identify opportunities, sources and nurtures new accounts, and maintains accurate reporting against budgets/goals. You’ll coordinate with operations to ensure stock availability, assist with regular stock takes, and use your building-materials knowledge to advise customers— including estimating from house plans—while upholding company values and service standards.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Serve counter customers and conduct external sales calls/visits.
Prepare and follow up on quotations; convert to confirmed orders.
Conduct basic market research; source and develop new business.
Manage budgets, goals, and sales targets; maintain accurate sales reports.
Resolve customer queries and provide product advice/alternatives.
Coordinate and participate in regular stock takes; support stock accuracy.
Perform order and delivery follow-ups to prevent delays.
Uphold and promote company values, culture, and customer service standards.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Grade 12 (Matric).
2–3 years’ experience in a similar sales role.
Essential: Knowledge of the general building materials environment.
Ability to estimate/calculate from house plans.
Proven track record in personal selling (achieving targets), customer service, finding new business, and converting to sales.
Ability to manage/coordinate regular stock takes.
Basic computer skills; strong communication, numeracy, and follow-up discipline.
