Job Description
The Safety Superintendent – Surface will play a critical role in managing the safety and health standards of the Obuasi Mine’s surface operations. This includes leading the Safety team to identify risks, enforce compliance, and promote proactive injury prevention strategies. The incumbent will ensure alignment with ISO 45001 and other regulatory standards, provide technical support, lead investigations, and develop strategies that foster a safety-first culture across the organization. The role will also serve as a liaison between departments and external stakeholders such as regulatory bodies.

How to Apply
Develop and oversee the implementation of a surface safety management system.
Facilitate operational readiness from a surface safety perspective.
Develop quarterly and annual safety plans with clear deliverables.
Lead a team of safety officers and surface personnel.
Drive a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
Prepare and manage the departmental safety budget.
Conduct safety audits, investigations, and risk assessments.
Ensure all surface operations comply with local safety legislation and company policies.
Build strong relationships with internal departments and external regulatory bodies.
Serve as the lead for significant incident investigations using structured methodologies (e.g., Taproot, ICAM, SCAT).
Monitor safety performance and generate regular reports to inform management decisions.

Degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences, or a related field.
ISO 45001 internal or lead auditor certification.
HSE Superintendent Certificate of Competency (Minerals Commission, Ghana).
NEBOSH International Diploma in Health and Safety (completed or at least 60% completed).
Valid Ghanaian driver’s license.
Experience:
Minimum 6 years' experience in a safety role within a mining environment.
Supervisory or management experience required.
Experience in safety across mining, processing plants, engineering, and surface infrastructure.
Proficient in incident investigation techniques and methodologies.
Must have operated in steep terrain and mining environments.
