Job Description
The REACH GIS Officer will play a key role in spatial analysis and mapping for ACTED's REACH initiatives. The officer will be responsible for supporting research cycle planning, data quality assurance, integration of spatial and non-spatial datasets, and development of GIS products. This includes using remote sensing tools like Google Earth Engine, managing geo-databases, and collaborating with assessment teams. The officer will also support presentations at stakeholder forums and maintain confidentiality and data compliance.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Support the design and implementation of GIS and remote sensing tasks across REACH Research Cycles.
Assist in assessment planning and generate sampling frameworks based on project objectives.
Conduct spatial data verification and ensure data quality during field collection.
Produce GIS outputs such as static maps, interactive dashboards, and web maps.
Contribute to remote sensing tasks using tools like Google Earth Engine.
Maintain and update geodatabases and ensure the integration of spatial and non-spatial datasets.
Validate GIS products with IMPACT HQ prior to external dissemination.
Document and share GIS workflows to promote knowledge sharing within the team.
Represent the GIS team in coordination meetings and present mapping products to stakeholders.
Ensure adherence to data licensing protocols and maintain confidentiality.
Perform additional duties as requested by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geospatial/Geomatic Engineering, Remote Sensing, or a related discipline.
Experience & Skills:
Minimum 2 years of experience in GIS and/or remote sensing, preferably in humanitarian or development settings.
Proficient in ESRI tools (ArcPro, ArcGIS Online).
Familiarity with remote sensing tools and climate hazard datasets.
Skilled in geospatial data management and analysis.
Knowledge of Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator) is desirable.
Advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel; experience in Python, R, or STATA is an advantage.
Experience with mobile data collection tools (ODK, KoBoToolbox, Survey123).
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.
Fluency in English is required; Swahili or Somali is an added advantage.
