Job Description
The QC Lab Assistant will assist in routine laboratory operations by preparing and maintaining glassware, labeling and managing samples, maintaining laboratory cleanliness, and supporting documentation tasks. This includes aiding in solution preparation, handling waste disposal in accordance with environmental standards, and ensuring instruments and materials are ready for testing. The role plays a critical support function in ensuring laboratory readiness and compliance with pharmaceutical regulations.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Assist QC analysts and officers with sample collection, labeling, and delivery for analysis.
Prepare and clean laboratory glassware, utensils, and workstations in line with established procedures.
Support media preparation, reagent mixing, and solution standardization as instructed.
Maintain cleanliness and order in the laboratory and sample storage areas to ensure a safe and compliant working environment.
Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and notify supervisors of restocking needs.
Dispose of chemical and microbiological waste according to SOPs and environmental safety standards.
Participate in calibration, maintenance, and servicing of laboratory equipment under supervision.
Support completion of daily cleaning logs, equipment use logs, and sample handling records.
Assist in the preparation of kits or test setups for method validation and stability studies.
Comply with laboratory safety protocols, hygiene practices, and good documentation practices (GDP).
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Academic Qualifications:
Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with a science combination is required.
A diploma in Laboratory Technology, Industrial Chemistry, or a related scientific field is an added advantage.
Experience and Competencies:
Minimum of 1–2 years of experience supporting quality control operations in a laboratory or manufacturing environment.
Basic knowledge of laboratory equipment and chemical handling.
Ability to follow instructions and work in a regulated environment under supervision.
Familiarity with GMP and GLP is desirable.
Strong sense of responsibility, attention to detail, and teamwork.
Ability to work independently and enforce protocol handling per SOPs.
