Job Summary
The Post Security Manager will play a key role in ensuring the safety and security of the British High Commission (BHC) premises, residential properties, staff, and visitors. This role supports the Post Security Officer (PSO) and Regional Security Advisor (RSA) in implementing security policies, overseeing security operations, coordinating with law enforcement, and managing crisis preparedness and response.

1. Security Operations & Oversight
Support the PSO and RSA in implementing robust and proportionate security measures across the BHC estate and staff residences.
Serve as the main liaison with the Ugandan Police and other law enforcement agencies.
Act as the BHC’s security contact with the Estates Team regarding residential and property security matters.
Oversee the operation of technical security systems, including CCTV, alarms, and access controls.
Monitor and review maintenance contracts for all security equipment.
2. Guard Force Management
Manage daily interactions with security contractors.
Monitor guard force performance through regular KPI reviews.
Conduct daily inspections of security infrastructure (gates, scanners, barriers, etc.) and ensure compliance.
3. Event & VIP Security
Coordinate security planning for BHC events and high-profile visits, including liaising with venue security and local police.
Review guest lists, assess potential risks, and deploy resources as required within budget limits.
4. Crisis & Emergency Preparedness
Assist in updating the BHC Crisis Management Plan.
Act as the focal point for security clearance procedures for Country Based Staff (CBS).
Conduct security briefings for new staff and official visitors.
Provide security support during emergencies, including occasional out-of-hours support (with a provided mobile phone and allowance).
5. Health & Safety
Serve as the Fire Safety Manager, ensuring compliance with FCDO fire safety standards.
Conduct regular fire drills, weekly alarm tests, and maintain the Fire Safety Manual.
Identify and report risks, incidents, or hazards, and ensure staff are trained in emergency procedures.
6. Stakeholder Engagement
Maintain strong working relationships with local police, partner embassies, and private security providers.
Contribute to a wider security network for intelligence-sharing and collaborative action.
7. Residential Security
Conduct property inspections and risk assessments for staff housing and recommended hotels.
Advise on improvements and coordinate any necessary upgrades.
8. Budget & Financial Management
Manage security-related expenses, including reviewing quotes, processing invoices, and maintaining accurate budget records on internal systems.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Proven experience in security management (e.g., corporate, military, government, or diplomatic environments).
Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to engage effectively with internal staff and external agencies.
Familiarity with Uganda’s security landscape and practical mitigation strategies.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
Valid driver’s license.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
Experience managing security for a diplomatic mission or international organisation.
Background in health & safety management.
Crisis management or formal security-related training or qualifications.
